GigaGeek Magazine Interviews Lorne Dixon

GigaGeek Magazine, the online review site run by an enthusiastically self-proclaimed “group of geeks,” has just posted an interview with our own Lorne Dixon, discussing his new novel, Blue Eel.

This is a great interview for understanding what was in Lorne’s mind as he was crafting the novel that reviewers are calling “refreshing and original,” a “gripping yarn,” and “satisfyingly impossible to predict.”

As Lorne says in the interview, horror readers should “lead the way into uncharted waters” — which we interpret as, “come on in, the Eel water is fine.”   🙂

The Oklahoman Recommends Blue Eel

Oklahoma’s largest newspaper, The Oklahoman, has reviewed Blue Eel — and we have to say, it makes a pretty compelling case for why you should read the book!  See for yourself — read the review.

“Best of Horror Library” Receives Honor

Cutting Block Books is thrilled to have “The Best of Horror Library, Volumes 1-5” named to Horror Underground’s list of the “top 20” horror books of 2015!

You can see the full list here.

Congratulations to the entire team who brought us this fine anthology, most especially volume Editor R.J. Cavender, and of course, all of the excellent authors who are featured in the book. We couldn’t do it without them, first and foremost!

The Shadows Are Coming

We’re thrilled to confirm that, yes, Farolight Publishing has made a deal to bring the Shadows Over Main Street anthology series to our Cutting Block Books imprint!

If you’re unfamiliar with the first book of this series, check it out.  Unfortunately, the company who originally published the first book went out of business, so all editions of that book are now out of print.

Hoever, we’re excited to be working with series editors D. Alexander Ward and Doug Murano to bring you Shadows Over Main Street 2, slated for release in the second half of 2016!

Shadows Over Main Street, the home of small-town Lovecraftian terror — now at home with Cutting Block Books!

Blue Eel — How Far Would YOU Go?

It’s finally here — Lorne Dixon’s new novel, BLUE EEL.

It’s about one man’s struggle to find his kidnapped daughter.  How far will he go?  How much of his humanity will survive his quest for vengeance?  Can we bring justice to the monsters around us, without becoming one ourselves?

Only YOU can supply the answer, by reading BLUE EEL.

A great Christmas gift — buy your copy today!

“Single Slices” Update #3

Okay, we are way overdue for a Single Slices update.

First, the headline: yes, we are proceeding with the Slices series!  This may have been a question in some people’s minds, only because they knew that our illustrious Editor-in-Chief, R.J. Cavender, left Cutting Block a couple of months ago to focus on other projects.  And yes, Slices was originally R.J.’s brainchild, but we liked it a lot too — and not only is R.J. happy to entrust it to our hands, he is still referring candidate stories to us as he comes across them!

Now, one effect that R.J.’s departure did have, was that it slowed us down even more in our slushpile throughput.  The good news is, we are down to the very last few stories that we are actively considering.  I’d say we have about six or seven stories left, in addition to the ones that we’ve already accepted, that we are batting around, discussing, and considering as to whether we will include them in the Slices series.

If you haven’t heard from us yet, then you are either:  a) one of the lucky half-dozen who are still in contention, or b) somehow your notification email fell through the cracks during the recent personnel shuffle.  If your situation turns out to be the latter, then we apologize in advance (we won’t know for sure which situation is yours until we post an update that says that we have sent out all notifications, and you tell us you didn’t get one).

Anyway, our goal is to have the first Slice hit the virtual newsstands before the end of the calendar year.  And we have some doozies lined up for you, from well known, and not-so-well-known, authors.

So, as poet Robert Burns observed a long time ago, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry… but in our case, we think the wait will have been worth it!

We Have the #2 “Hot New Release”

The Kindle edition of Cutting Block Books’ The Best of Horror Library is now the Number 2 “Hot New Release” on Amazon’s Horror Short Stories rankings list.

And who, you might ask, is Number 1?  Just some guy… maybe you’ve heard of him?  Goes by the name of Stephen King.

Wait, what?  Stephen King?  THE Stephen King??

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, let it be known that we at Cutting Block Books are perfectly happy having our book be the Number 2 “Hot New Release” in the Horror Short Story category, if it means that we are second only to Stephen Effing King.

Here’s a screen-shot to prove it:

Hot new release

“Best of” eBook ranked #31 #12 on Amazon!

Cutting Block Books is excited to announce that the Kindle edition of The Best of Horror Library arrived July 31!  And as of 2:13 PM EDT (when this post was being written), the book had reached #31 in Amazon sales ranking for horror short story eBooks:

  • #31 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Horror > Short Stories

Now, we realize this ranking may not last — but it’s pretty cool to watch it while it’s happening!  HorrorUnderground.org called this book “the shining star” of the Horror Library series.  Apparently Amazon customers agree.

Spread the news!  The (electronic) Library will be open all night…

UPDATE:  As of 7:50 PM EDT on August 2, “Best of” is at number 12 in its category!!
